York Cafes

The Hairy Fig Cafe

There are two parts to the Hairy Fig on Fossgate, on the right there is a deli and on the left there is a shop with a cafe at the back.

We had to try a coouple of time, on different days, to get a seat because the cafe is very small and only has three tables inside. There is an outide area but we really only wanted to sit inside so we decided we would wait until we could.

The Hairy Fig is well worth a visit just to get a look inside at all the spice jars, colours and carved wood furniture.

The food was very nice and well presented, quite ‘posh’ for a little cafe actually. The only downside of this is that ‘posh’ often means you don’t get a lot to eat which, though it was delicious, was the case here. We found ourselves ordering flapjacks and cakes, which were also wonderful, because we didn’t feal the meal was big enough.

However, the smallness of the meal can be judged by the reader when viewing the picture below.

It could well be that a lot of people will think the meal size is perfectly fine,  and I would strongly suggest anyone to give The Hairy Fig a try. The atmosphere is very relaxing and welcoming and you will certainly enjoy your visit.

I personally would not be adverse to eating there again.
